The use of` fiberoptics in exploration of the colon is a relatively new technique. In early 1969 the first flexible fiberoptic colonoscope was introduced clinically.
With the colonoscope, questionable lesions can be identified, biopsied, and malignant lesions can be diagnosed when symptoms still are minimal and the disease is yet a curable stage. The-rapeutic applications of colonoscopy are also well established.
We experienced 104 cases of colonofiberscopy at Department of Surgery, Korea General Hos-pital since 1974.
Clinical analysis of 104 cases of colonofiberscopy were made, and with our experience and review of literature, the developmental history, introduction of apparatus, technique, indication, limitation and complications of colonofiberscopy were presented briefly.
